Mommy Bragging Rights

So, I guess I have to be "such a mom", and completely gush about my son! Kaden, who is now about 1/2 way through Kindergarten, is READING! It is the neatest thing to watch, to see him take the time and sound out words, read signs, instructions, everything! I wish I could give credit to myself, but really, it is all owed to his awesome preschool. They gave him such amazing phonics skills, which are the key step to reading. He has aced all his weekly spelling/reading words and is one of the top 5 in his class! For me, the best thing about Kaden being quite the little reader, is his enjoyment of it. He has such a desire to learn and understand everything, he truly LOVES school, cause he loves to learn! That really goes for everything, because he is also very into math and his addition/subtraction...(he's going to be a little nerdy like his mama and Aunties LOL) My favorite thing of all about watching his little mind grow, is when he sits down with Brady and reads him stories...something very special for both of them!

Boys play dress-up too!

...it's just not pretty princess stuff, high heals and jewelry! Oh-no, it's actually pretty creative and fun to watch as they create themselves into these characters. All 3 boys were sick last week with a cold and began to get stir crazy (and drive me and Jay crazy too!) So we pulled out all their costumes (which I have saved just for this reason) and other misc. stuff I've collected for them to dress up in. Here is what they became...

(It's a little blurry because none of them would stand still at the same time!)
...but we have
Brady, the Silly-SpongeBob-Iron-Face
Kohl, just good ol' super strong Incredible Hulk
and Kaden....well lets see here...the Cowboy-Pirate-Knight in long johns LOL!!!
and I'm just laughing like usual hahaha
life is good!

just some "Hustead Haps"

Just some quick family updates. A lot has happened in the past month and time is just flying by! Jason and both started Spring semester at the end of January. He is finishing up his diesel tech program at Palomar and I'm just chugging along at CSUSM with my double major of Communication and Sociology. I received a huge honor and amazing opportunity in this given economic time with a promotion and a big raise. I am now a Store Manager and am back to the original store I started the company at in Carlsbad. I love it and it's a great challenge for me, which I gladly welcome :)
The kids are great of course. Kaden is taking soccer lessons one day a week after school with a few of the boys from his class. He has a blast hanging out and playing soccer. Kohl has been begging for months to do Karate, so we have finally found an affordable place he can go twice a week and not cost as much as a car payment! lol He loves the structure and discipline of the martial arts...who would of thought?lol
Brady, well he is officially a terrible 2, but a cute one at that! He is into everything and LOVES throwing whatever he can find off our patio! He is potty training and loves his own little potty and goes on it about 3-4 times a day! YAY for Brady!

Just one of those pics...

...that captured a moment when you usually don't have a camera, but take that mental picture in your head. Jay and Brady were in their own world playing and I happened to get this shot while sitting back watching them. I actually didn't even realize and remember I had it. I have SO many pictures still on my camera from Christmas time and found this one while I was trying to upload some of them. Now it is one of my favorite pictures that I will love forever!

Ice-Ice Baby

Kohl had a great 5th birthday. We celebrated on his actual birthday (12/27) with the all the aunts/uncles, grandparents and great-grandparents, before our Utah trip. Then last week we had his "birthday party" with all his friends. It was a blast to see all the kids, and most all the parents!, out on ice skates! I know for some, it was a first time experience ;) The kids got a private lesson on the basics and it was amazing to watch them from the beginning, falling all over, and at the end they were totally getting it! We had a great time and are so grateful to all our friends and family that were there!
Amber- sorry Sami wasn't in the pic, I think you guys had just left :( !
